ILLEGAL BUSINESSES - Mobility Equipment Hire

We are the only trusted, legal British run mobility rental business established here in Tenerife for over 11 years. We are used by most of the major tour operators.

Please be aware that there are individuals and businesses over here in Tenerife who will spin you a line, offer cheap rentals and tout for business (illegal here in Tenerife) along the front and elsewhere. Even if they appear to be legitimate with business premises or websites etc they probably don’t have the necessary opening licence or insurances. If in doubt, ask to see a copy of their “Licencia de Apertura” before dealing with them. As we all know insurance companies will find any reason not to pay out, and if you rent from an illegal company any holiday insurance you have will probably be invalid if you rent from these people. As an example, accommodation on residential complexes, such as Parque Tropical, are advertised on the internet for short term holiday lets which could result in your being evicted from the property as it is against community rules.

If you choose to use any of these people you risk losing money and maybe even your holiday. If you have, or cause, an accident, then you may well be liable for all claims against you. You risk losing everything you have back in the UK, including your home.

We at Orange Badge are a fully legal and insured business with all the correct opening licences and paperwork. As required under Spanish law the business opening licence must be displayed prominently inside the premises. We do not tout for business along the seafront as it is illegal to do so. Our shop has been open here for 11 years. Our fleet of vans are all clearly identified, as are our machines. We only promote property which is located on Touristic (and therefore legal) complexes.

In short, we are proud of our business and our reputation as a trusted company keen to help.

Illegal Businesses - Airport Transfers and Trips

Unfortunately there are many people over in Tenerife out to make a quick buck.

This applies particularly in the transport sector where there are many drivers who tout for business. They will tell you to pretend to be their friends if they are stopped.

Please be aware that if you pay to go in any vehicle (i.e. any trip or transfer or any journey where you pay to go like a coach or a taxi or minibus) the vehicle used must by law display SP plates (Servicio Publico) near to the number plate both front and back. You will notice that all Taxis and Green TITSA buses as well as the many authorised transport companies display their SP Licences. If you get into any vehicle without these SP plates you will be travelling illegally and should there be any kind of incident or accident you are totally uninsured. Your holiday insurance is unlikely to cover you as you have used illegal transport. In addition if you are travelling in an illegal vehicle which is stopped by the police, it has been known for the vehicle to be impounded there and then, at best leaving the passengers by the side of the road, at worst arresting them as well.

Needless to say Orange Badge use the services of a fully licensed and insured Canarian Taxi Driver to do all our people carrying.

When you make a booking with us we ask for no money in advance. If you have to cancel there is no cancellation charge up to 2 weeks before the rental is due to take place. Within two weeks of the start of the rental we reserve the right to make a cancellation charge.
We fully explain in advance the amount of the hire charge, any applicable delivery charges (normally free), and the amount of the refundable deposit as well as when we will deliver the equipment to your resort.
Both the hire charge and the refundable deposit are payable on delivery of the equipment. If you have used our meet and greet services or airport transfer services you also pay for these when we come to your accommodation.
We also require sight of the hirers passport.
We ask for a deposit which is refundable. When we deliver the equipment to you at resort we explain “the rules” and the do’s and don’ts. Providing these have been fully adhered to there is never a problem with handing back the deposit in full. If the equipment has been damaged due to abuse, or the equipment is not returned at the agreed time then we reserve the right to withhold the deposit. Please note that this is a last resort for us.
